I’m a Geek Again!

So I have been a self described ‘geek’ for a while. When I was in college and graduate school, I like to think I was near the cutting edge of technology. I had an email address and was using it on a regular basis in 1990 when I started college. When I was in graduate school I was writing HTML code in notepad since there was no software for writing HTML code.
When I got out of graduate school and started my first real job at Western Wyoming Community College, I started focusing on my new job, teaching. Now, WWCC was not exactly completely tech-savvy (compared to the University of Minnesota), so I took a step back in my desire and resources in keeping up with the technology movement.
A few years go by and I realize that I am no longer near the cutting edge, I have moved closer to the general masses, and that bums me out. I enjoyed playing with technology and being one of the first on my block doing stuff.
Well, recently I discovered this cool new idea of a blog and I thought ‘how completely cool is this?!’ so I started keeping my own little journal. I started looking for other blogs to read, but I realized that I didn’t know what to search for. I knew there were other people out there who thought like I did and wouldn’t it be cool to find their blogs and read them. I discovered Wonkette and Lifehacker by just blindly searching for links here and there. These were way cool sites that I was checking several times a day. Links there help me find more cool sites (http://www.digg.com/ , http://www.lifehack.org/ and http://www.43folders.com/ were found this way)
Then I take another step. I realize that I have a bunch of websites I want to check on a frequent basis and I am trying to come up with an efficient way to watch them all, and then I decide to read up on and become savvy in the concept of RSS. So I search around and find a RSS Aggregator, Abilon. This little tool allows you to set up multiple RSS feeds and monitor them easily. Now I completely addicted because A) I have found sites that have cool stuff that I like and B) I have a tool that tells me immediately when a new post has been placed there.
I feel like a complete geek again, and I love it!
